River Report

Sunday Sept. 5
FLOW = 100 cfs
Water Termp. = 70 deg.
Ct fishing License Link = https://ct.outdoorcentral.net/InternetSales/LicenseSale.aspx

Well , we go NO WATER ! The water temp has come down a little as we have had some cool nights , and we expect this to continue. What we really need is a good soaker. The fall colors wont be too good here if we dont get some water. The fishing is basically at a standstill at the moment , not much of anything going on , but good insect activity the last few nights, mostly the ISO. The state was planning on stocking this week but with the warm and low conditions we dont know if that will take place. There is no real rain in the forecast and to us it does not make much sense dumping several thousand fish into " STRESS " conditions, that wont help anything ! We will keep an eye on this and report accordingly. Happy Labor Day. Tightlines !

Aug 28
Flow = 175 cfs
Water temp. = 67 deg
Ct fishing License Link = https://ct.outdoorcentral.net/InternetSales/LicenseSale.aspx

Cooler evenings have lowered the water temp for us. The State will come in on Sept. 9 to do a major re- stocking. Many large 2-3 lb Browns and Rainbows will be introduced. They will be doing 2-3 visits with the stocking trucks here in the month of Sept. to get us back to where we were before the summer doldrums put us in a world of hurt by killing a lot of the fish. We will keep you posted as to the conditions. Tightlines !

Aug. 23
Flow = 204 cfs and going UP! NEW 2 1/2 INCHES OF RAIN, Thank God
Water Temp. = 70
Ct fishing License Link = https://ct.outdoorcentral.net/InternetSales/LicenseSale.aspx

Remember that we no longer sell Fishing Licenses at the shop. we have Rain . Yes , I said RAIN, it`s true... A substantial system moved in last night and we could get a few inches. We were a week away from turning in to the Sahara desert here. This should bring everything back, except the fish that were lost in the last 2 months. The State should come in sometime in the next 30 day`s or so and fill us back up with fish, and we expect a normal Fall season. This rain will bring the water temp down and the fish that are still stacked up at the tribs should move back into the river. This is what we have been waiting for. This is the result of the rain dance that we did here this week.......

Aug. 16
Flow = 125 cfs
Water Temp. = 72
Ct fishing License Link = https://ct.outdoorcentral.net/InternetSales/LicenseSale.aspx

Praying for rain here. We really need a good soaker. I`m talking more than a thunder shower, like 3-4 inches or so....A good hurricane up the coast would work. The White Fly is over . It came and when with little fanfare as not many were fishing in these conditions. The bass fishing is O K .... if you can find water deep enough to fish in. Not much more to say .

Sat. Aug. 7
Flow = 182 cfs
Water Temp. = 75 +
Ct fishing License Link = https://ct.outdoorcentral.net/InternetSales/LicenseSale.aspx

Well, another hot week in the books. Only a few more to go and then we turn the corner. It wont be long. We still need water. The bass fishing is good , so give it a shot if you like, as you can walk through all the pools in this flow. The Whitefly is still strong with blizzard like emergence just before dark.

Aug 2nd
Flow = 178 cfs
Water Temp. = 76 +
License Link = https://ct.outdoorcentral.net/InternetSales/LicenseSale.aspx

Be advised that we
will no longer be selling CT Fishing Licences in the shop. Copy and paste the above referenced link to obtain one via the internet.
The river is historically low, and warm. Last year we had 1000-1500 cfs for most of July. I would kill right for a portion of that. The Whitefly is out and has been moderate to strong the last 2 nights. Mostly Bass on them, on the surface. Rain in the forecast the next few day`s , we need a good soakin. Keep your fingers crossed. If you like Smallmouth we are the place to come. When the water cool`s we will be back at the trout.

Well, another round of heavy rain here late last night. A spectacular lightning show . Around an inch fell and for the first time in a month or so everything is well watered and looking green again. It appears that there was more rain upstream as Great Barrington is at 247 cfs and rising , which should put us to around 500 cfs here later today , ( We HOPE ! ) That is good news for our Trout who continue to endure extreme stress conditions, and remained pooled up in the refuge areas. Leave them alone, dont go looking at them as it only adds to the stress. We are still asking you not to come here to trout fish until further notice. The smallmouth action remains constant as one would expect in these conditions. A very warm day predicted , in the mid 90`s, with a 50% chance of more severe weather later. Feast or Famine. Tightlines !

July 21st
Flow = 423 cfs
Water Temp = 76 +
some rain in, Mass over night bring much needed water to the HOUSY its a start

July 14th
Flow = 225 cfs New rain 1/2" not much good
Water Temp. 78 in am to start ^
Some good news here. We got the first measurable rain in quite a while yesterday afternoon, 1 3/4 inch fell in about an hour. It really came down. The ground was so dry however that most of the water soaked into the ground and very little made it into the river. It did bring the tribs up to more than a trickle. We are still in significant trouble here as far as the trout go. Do not come here looking for trout until further notice ! We have lost some of these magnificant creatures over the last 2 weeks. Smallmouth fishing has been quite good as one would expect in low and warm conditions. We will keep you posted every couple of days as there is no reason to update daily at the moment. Tightlines

July 9th - 12th
Flow = 179 cfs
River Temp. = ^ no trout fishing until futher notice
A massive heat wave is do in,the trout should be left alone,small mouth bass fishing has heated up. This is a good time to come and hone your fly-casting skills on the small mouth bass more affectionately known as the "tarpon of the Berkshires".Tight lines.

The rains missed us again last night. They were all around but we got nothing , nor did they get any upstream. We are low and warm. Bass fishing is good however.

Friday June 25
Flow = 355 cfs
River Temp. = 72 ^
We got about 1/4 " of rain yesterday. The major storms passed us by. We really needed it. The trout have moved into the cold water holding areas which as you know are posted against fishing this time of year. Good smallmouth fishing has been going on here but if you need to fish for trout , go to the Farmington. Nothing more to report now.

Monday June 21
Flow = 433 cfs
River temp. = 68 deg.
A little rain here yesterday, not even enough to measure. The water temp is getting back up there with the low water and warm temps. we have had. Take extra care when playing and landing the trout in our river please. Same insect activity as the last few days. There will be no update until the Thurs. or Fri.

Sunday June 20
Flow = 470 cfs
River Temp. = 65
Hit or miss last night depending on who you talk to. Some saw little surface activity others had great surface action. Thats fishing . A slight chance of showers here today 40 %, but nothing on the radar at the moment. I will be keeping an eye on it. A little overcast this am , as usual here in the valley, but it will burn off as it will go to 86 deg. today. Same fly`s as the last few day`s. Nymphing still the main attraction. Happy Fathers Day to all you DAD`s. Use that as an excuse to come up fishing..... Tightlines

Sat. June 19
Flow = 541 cfs
River Temp. = 64 deg.
Another good night here . Good activity around 7pm , till dark. Alders- Several types of caddis - ISO and Cahill being the most active. Look on top after the sun goes behind the hills, they are rising. Nymphing again during the day wii bring em to the net. Proper presentation being most important over fly selection here. Just get any nymph in front of the and they will eat it ! A sparkeling morning here. Welcome to the participants of our Orvis Fly Fishing School, should be a great weekend to be on the ol Hous`. Marty off yesterday to Montana to float the Smith River with a group, how lucky they are. One of the most exclusive destinations in all Fly Fishing. Wish I could go, but someone has to steer the ship. Tightlines , MOe.

June 18th
Flow = 630 cfs ^
Water Temp. = 64 deg.
lots of fish up last night,it is going to get hot again,you want to get out this weekend if you can while temps are still low,have a great weekend

the water has clear up and the fishing is good to great right now, we did not get much rain over night, water levels are perfect and will be all weekend long, last night I went up and look at the Cover bridge pool it was nice to see fish working in the pool again they were out in the center just sipping spinners around 7:30 pm.

I took a look around last night at 900cfs and at 7pm, found fish up all over the place, the water was off color but the fish were coming up anyway went big with the bugs and tried a stimulator ( yellow ) first shot a 15" brown hit it hard, I then turn the rod over to my boy Dom and on his 2nd cast hit a nice rainbow we had fun with that for 3 more fish and then went to a size 10 ISO they killed it for 4 more fish and just before dark went to a 10 white wolf picked up 2 more should be better tonight with the lower flow, watch the sky to night some storm in the valley tonight...800

I

We have lost most of the clarity and are about 1.5 ft. visibility Bright colored streamers ( yellow & white ) are what I like when the conditions are like this. Low and slow as they say. BIG nymphs also, like the stone or Hellgramite.

Sat. June 13
Flow = 700 cfs
River Temp. 64 deg.
Very overcast here this am, and rain comming in according to the radar. Maybe a 1/2 to and inch over the next 24 hrs. We could use it again to stabilize conditions here for another week or so. Good nymphing again yesterday. Last night there was GREAT surface activity. I watched the water from 7-9pm upstream, and was very impressed at what I saw. Lots of noses sticking out. A good amount of 2" Golden Stones flying around. Good Alder activity, Cahills, and most importantly Iso BiColor. Tons of them , and the fish were on them. Also a fair amout of Little Yellow Sallies, and other stones. Black caddis hot too, just stand in the fast water and they will crawl down your legs and lay their eggs on your waders. ( what a mess! ) A classic day to go fishing, NO SUN ! Tightlines

Friday June 11
Flow = 508 cfs
River Temp. = 62 deg.(am)
Heavy storms rolled through yesterday afternoon, including the springs second tornado warning. Some trees down up in Sharon and a woman riding a horse in Goshen was struck by lightning. Just under 1/2 inch of water fell here. The river is better than it was last week at this time. The water temp. is the most significant change , down to 62 this am. I did get daytime reports last weekend of water temps around or over 75 deg. ( NO GOOD !) So all in all we are in good shape here. Cool evening temps have helped moderate things. Isonychia seems to be the main event the last few days. Sporadic hatching all day then a dump of them in the evening. The spinner will always take fish when presented properly. Lots of Alder still , several types and colors of caddis. Sulpher - Cahills - Bwo - all around. Stonefly nymphs are on fire , and now that the water is cooler they shoukld go back to chasing streamers. Come on UP !

June 10
Flow = 398 cfs
Temp. = 64 deg.
1/2 inch of rain fell on over night,we needed this in a big way,last night it got down to 49 degrees,today high is around 68 and tonight is around 45 again this is what we needed,the bug action last night was great lots of fish up tonight should be the same. Good nymphing again yesterday, and last night was some good dry fly action , mostly from 8-9 pm. Cahill - Iso and their spinners worked as did caddis and skeetering an Alder. Stoneflys really active. Overcast and much cooler this am. I`ll take this over bright sunshine any day. Evening air temps tonight and tomorrow night in the 40`s. That should help us but what we really need is a good 1-2 inch soaker. Tightlines

Sat. June 5
Flow = 440 cfs
Temp. = 72
A little shower here early in the am watered the lawn, but not enough to do anything to the river. Hot , steamy, and partly overcast at the moment. A 50 % cahnce of showers later. Some action yesterday . Decent activity first thing in the morning, then we had bright sun all day. The water heated up and nymphing was the only way to get one. In the evening , again, a blizzard of various insects, you name it , they were around. Caddis still the heaviest of all , including the Alder which is in full swing. More and more Iso each day, and spinners in the evening. Cooler evening temps for Sunday - Monday- Tuesday could help us.

Friday June 4
Flow = 530 cfs
Temp. = 70 deg
Well , another week is in the books. A sparkeling day here. Blue sky and dry. Good weather today . Maybe a little rain tonight and over the weekend . We really need it as we are behind for the year so far. All the bugs are out and the fish are eating them mostly in the early am and and just before dark. With the clouds and rain on Sat. and Sun. there could be good action all day with the abundance of insects that are out. This weather comming is perfect for fishing and beats the bright sunshine of the last few weeks. I would make a b line up here if I was you. Tons of bugs, low water, lots of fish and few fisherman, what else could you ask for ? Try the Hellgramite nymph over the weekend , it gets really active when it rains. Stop in and let us know how you do. Tightlines

June 3rd
Flow = 630 cfs
Temp = 70 deg.
looks like a soaking is on the way tonight and tomorrow. We really need it. The river temp continues to get up into the mid to upper 60`s by the middle of the afternoon. Not seeing any fish moveing into the tribs yet, so they are holding their own for now. Yesterday was a fair day, mostly nymphers having the best luck. Last night was a deluge of insects. The ALDER made its apperance and it wont be long before the trout realize that and get on em. Ton`s of brown caddis, they look like a baby alder in color and are about 1/2 the size. Thousands of them under our lights last night as we enjoyed a seafood medely on the grill. By far the most prevelent insect at the moment. Some Cahill spinners under the lights, Iso spinners, several types of stones, ( golden stone nymph killin them ) Dobson Fly is active but wait till it rain`s then you will really see em. Sulphers here and there, some Drakes and a lot midges also. Last night Marty`s brother Matty and his son hit 2 car till dak and knocked em around pretty good. Stimulator, Cahill and Caddis did the trick for them all on the top. They really came alive just before dark. They are tuning up for our Smith River Trip in about 3 weeks, wish I was going. So that is the latest. Have a safe holiday and tightlines. Moe

May 28th - 30th
Flow 400 cfs
River Temp. = 67

Memorial Day weekend is upon us,backyard barbecues, and trout fishing, that's how I grew up, with that said, fishing is excellent early morning and late afternoon into the evening, last night driving home from dinner I had to use the windshield wipers were so many spinners coming down the road was a mix of PMD's March Browns and yes even the green drake and brown Drakes are out,it is soup time out on the River observation is the key to success at this time in the season with so many different bugs on the water,what one fish eats the next fish may not be eating, Golden stone flies are coming off to big numbers, stimulators are working great in the pocket water,Iso's,and sulfurs are working great and runs, Green Drake, and Brown Drake are working well in the pools Cahill are working great throughout the River system, at any time in the evening any of their spinners could be on the water, with low water levels you can walk all over the River and access parts that normally you can never get to.we need rain, but the weather gods have brought us cool temperatures again,have a great Memorial Day weekend lets not forget why we celebrate this day, let's be safe out there tight lines. This will be the report for the weekend

A cloudy overcast morning here. These are the day`s I dream about when it comes to fishin the ol Hous. With no sun and lots of bugs and low water, there is nothing more that one could ask for. So, why are you not here ???? People, you are missing the boat if you do not get up here in the next week or two. Really , this river has not been in better shape in recent memory. Gotta give the state of CT a lot of credit for comming around and revising their management policy. We have what we wanted and asked for. The bugs du jour` are the size #16-18 Sulpher. A #12-14 Cream Cahill. A # 12-14 March Brown. Some large Iso here and there, as well as several colors and sizes of Caddis. The Stonefly is very active, and just look at any large rock near fast water and you will see the shucks....Golden Stonefly nymphs killing them... Dont rule out spinners, as the March Brown could fall en mass any evening now that they have been out for a while. Nymphing still is the ticket to catch the most and the biggest fish. Think about prospecting pocket water with a Stimulator when nothing else going on. Shmorgasboard time on the Housey.

May 22nd
Flow 625 cfs
River Temp. = 64
One of the top 10 weekends for fishing is upon us, with water Temps at a optimum temperature , fish half to eat and eating they are, morning activity starts around seven with brown and green caddis making for much of the action, from about 11 o'clock to three o'clock fishing in the pocket water with a size 10 March Brown can bring fish to net, from three o'clock to dark there is a plethora of insects on the water starting with the sulfur size 14 March Brown size 12 and 10 gray Fox size 14 and even stimulators are starting to work in the pocket water for the Golden stone flies, there is no shortage of activity out there you just need to move around and find it. Spinner falls have begun around 730 at night a good supply of Rusty spinners in range from 18 to 10 will get the job done.

Last night fishing was great, Sulphers were out in numbers,this ia a great hatch for fishing Dries,it start around 4pm and goes to dark,in a few days we should the Spinner falls starting,get ready.March browns are hot right now,as well as the Gray fox,with good weather for the next week,fishing will only get better,at 750 cfs this is great wading level,you can get all over the river,it wont be long before the Green Drake and brown drake will be here,then the Alder.

Not a bad day on Sunday,fish were on the brown Caddis 8am -11am . The the March Browns made an appearance around 4pm till dark, and the fish went for them on the surface. Dont be afraid to throw a big fly at them , size # 10-12 for starters. We should see some March Brown spinners any evening now, so if you see them in the air, and then see sippers , try that spinner. Getting to the stage in the game in the next week or so where a lot of insect activity will be happening. The Stonefly nymph is very active and working well. Grey Fox- Sulpher - Cahill- Drakes , soon to be served at the Hous buffet table. So keep an eye on the menu. Tightlines ! Today
05/18 2010 at 8:30 AM no rain yet and cadis flutering on surfice of all pools good fishing this morning. Water temp 58 nad flow 642 cfs. B P

May 15th
Flow = 900 cfs
Temp= temp 58
friday was a hot day of fishing,Caddis were on the water all day,from push em ups to the park ,Prince nymph were hot as well,some much need water has the river at a nice flow of 900cfs and is starting to fall. More rain is due in for Tues,wed of this week,come on out ,weather is going to be nice all weekend tight lines

picked up a 1/2 inch of rain last night,not sure what happen up north,I floated last night from celler Hole to the park,they were fish up but not a lot of bugs,not sure why,March Brown emerger work good for me ,as well as the Gray fox Dry.Streamer fishing was great,landed 3 nice Rainbows,over 15" but went back to the dries,there were fish eating Caddis and BWO.Grat day to come out and fish,A little weather coming in for the afternoon watch the skies.-
.+

The wind and the rain have finally retreat from the Housatoni.A well needed half inch of rain, has put the River at comfortable 700 CFS, action has been wonderful, Bluewing Olive ( BWO ) sizes 18 through 20 have been on the water on cloudy and rainy days, the Grey Fox and the Caddis have ruled the surface, the Grey Fox 14 and 16 will do the job nicely, Henryvilles, Brown caddis, X caddis in 14 and 16 are working well. From this point on fishing March Browns from 4 clock to dark, trailing a Gray fox cripple,is deadly. Stoneflies in Black, Brown and Yellow are also effective,try trailing a caddis Pupa or A Hare's Ear size 14.Prince nymphs size 16 to 12 also working well,Olive Woolybugger, as well as Brown are taking fish, Rusty spinners 20 through 10 should be in your fly boxes now until August,a good pattern to trail off of March Browns, Brown Drakes, Green Drakes for the next month
or so.lite rain do in for Friday,should be a great dry fly day was cloudy skies and light rain,as well as streamer fishing.

Fishing continues to be good, although the wind blew pretty good yesterday, Nymph Fishing was the ticket,Caddis Beadheads,March Brown,Prince Nymph were all working well.Fish were rising most of the day but casting was a nightmare,Iam out this Am will report back later today,very little wind uo here as of now,not going to so bad today,rain for Wed,Good day to come up

Dispite,lots of wind and cold air on mother day, fishing continues to be good to great!, wind is blowing to day as well, more ands more march browns are seen on the River, this should be the week they start, Green and Brown Caddis
are out in force, Watch for the Gray Foxe.Cold air has moved into the Housatonic valley for the next few days, much needed water has come to the river over the last few days, we are holding around 850cfs this is

We only got 1/2" of rain here yesterday, but the must have gotten more up the road as the river has come up over 200 cfs, and is still rising. We really needed the water as the fish were getting concentrated in the center of the river and in the deeper pools. Now they will spread back out. Still very wadeable, and she has not lost any clarity, yet...? Great Barrington shows a increasing spike, so we expect it to come up some more during the morning, but nothing enough to keep anglers away. Great fishing again yesterday, in between the rains and winds. We lost power around 7pm last night, due to the wind which was really howling. It did not come back till about 6 am. It was soooo dark here last night , it seemed like every star in the universe was visible. Caddis - Caddis - Caddis, and a few March Browns. Some 16-18 BWO during the morning rain also. Streamers with white and yellow, and stonefly nymphs, and 16-18 PT doing it too... It really has been a good couple of weeks here, good to see the ol Hous roarin back to life. Just like to old day`s... There is really no reason not to come give it a shot.

Early morning showers and thunderstorms rolled in through the night,so far no measurable amount of water has fallen, last night there was a heavy caddis Hatch that had fish up throughout the River system, March Browns have shown their faces the last couple of nights still very light, I imagine the next week they should really pick up
Brown caddis 16 and 14 have begun, make sure you have green and brown Caddis when you step into the field of battle, Nymph fishing continues to be excellent as well streamer fishing early morning late afternoon and cloudy and overcast days, with these low water levels,this is a great time to explore different spots on the River you can almost walk anywhere except the deepest pools, I don't believe this is going to last much longer as I see Rain is in the forecasted over the next 10 days .

fishing continues to be good to excellent,caddis activity is great in the a.m. starting around seven and going to about noon, then it picks up again for about 4 PM to dark, the good news is more more March Browns reported,I saw a fish eating one at the cover bridge pool two nights ago, gray foxes were seen on the water as well, Brown caddis has also started, caught three fish yesterday morning on the brown size 16, streamer fishing continues to be excellent, with water levels at 550cfs you can walk all over the River, at that water level fish have to rise to flies this would be a great weekend to come out, some scattered showers forecast for Saturday morning clearing out by afternoon,should have no effect on the River, we need water now.

Great fishing continues, with the exception of last night the evening session has been awesome with Spent Caddis,
X Caddis,and Henryvilles, all in size 16 and 14. Last night heavy wind, rain and thunder & lightning came through around five o'clock and was over by 630, picked up about 1/8 of an inch, we could use some water, unfortunately this shut down the River,I was out to about 815 with just a few fish rising. Nemph fishing continues to be good to great, all subsurface CADDIS pattern are working well, Prince nymph, yellow and brown stone are all working well, saw my first March Brown last night on the water we should see in the next seven days this hatch in full swing,also Gray foxes have been noted. Streamer fishing in early morning or on cloudy overcast days has been excellent Woolly Buggers, Olive, Whello . Yes I havehite, black as well as conehead marabou muddlers in natural and in green, little rascals continue to be an overall favorite. Scattered showers on Thursday could make for great dry fly day and for throwing streamers, low water flows make for easy access in the River to almost all but the deepest pools.

Another killer Weekend. Lots of fish up and being taken on top with caddis flies. It is really gonna pop here over the next few weeks as we get into " shmorgasboard " time. The river is in as good of shape as anyone could ever hope for. Very warm again today but mostly cloudy. All I spoke to today have done good, best the river has been in years. Could use a little water, some comming this evening maybe. Get up here a soon as you can to take advantage of the great conditions, and limited angler pressure, light rain overnight we need it, scattered showers throughout the week we need it, this is the time to come to the River to satisfy your dry fly fix tight lines May 2 Flow 692 Temp = 60 Lots of good fishing going on here. Caddis have shown up and the fish are on them both on top and below. Some spinners may linger tonight. Very hot today 80 + air temp. Nymphs and streamers still doing it too. Deer Hair Henryville is working well, as well as the X-caddis and pupae and larvae. Our web host has had some problems in the last 24 hrs, so sorry for the delay on reporting. Everyone ripping lips here today. April 30th Flow 819 cfs
Temp 60 degrees
Nuts, Nuts, Nuts. The River couldn't be fishing any better, with forecast warmer temperatures for the next 10 days, this will be the catalyst to launch the Caddis flies, we're seeing more and more of the green body Caddis. More affectionately known as the mother day Caddis, today or tomorrow should set this Hatch into action,be ready , the Hatch starts around 9 AM and goes till dark and beyond, I was flipping rocks yesterday afternoon in the park and their hundreds and hundreds of Caddis pupa under the rocks, they are ready to go. we are about 7 to 10 days away from March Browns and Gray Foxes,March Browns are size 10 and 12, gray fox is size 16,14, with no real rain in sight,this is a excellent flow to fish this hatch, great weekend forecast, it's time to come up and wet a line. Have guides out today, will report on their successes in morning report, tightlines

Fishing continues to be excellent on the River, Stonefly Nymphs, Yellow, Brown and Black, trailing a Caddis pupa size 16 or 14 will bring fish to the net, streamer fishing is red-hot, yellow zuddler's yellow conehead Muddlers, and white conehead Muddlers are deadly right now, more and more Caddis are showing we are less than 10 days away from this prolific Hatch get your 16 and 14 Elk Hare Caddis, as well as x-Caddis,and Henryvilles, in the same size ready for battle. 800 CFS is a perfect flow for wading, with no rain in sight and warmer temperatures coming into New England over the next three or four days River temperature will rise and activate the Caddis this could be the first weekend was good Caddis Hatch.

I'm back from fishing tarpon, unbelievable experience, Hooked and jumped 2,100 lb class Tarpon I survived one jump and run with the first Tarpon, the second Tarpon I survived two major jumps, these fish are 5 to 6 feet long,and then he was gone, I saw hundreds of tarpon,lots of sharks, plenty of Dolphins, sea turtles great trip, going back next April with two shop trips six people max, already have three signed up for the first trip April 27,and five spots available for the second trip May 3.

However I returned to snow last night,what a world we live in just three hours ago I was flying across a turquoise flat in Key Largo, land three hours later back in Connecticut and driving in snow,as for the Housatonic, looks like we picked up a little over an inch of rain, the River has come up to 920 CFS, not the end of the world we need water in the river cool temperatures have dropped the temperature back,a few degrees. last night, and tonight, frost warnings. i'll talk to the guides and get a more accurate report, and get back to you later, 80° temperatures forecast for end of week should put us back to where we belong going into May. See me for costs for the tarpon trips for next year, these are relatively inexpensive trips. We have one opening, due to a cancellation, for the Smith River trip this June 19TH, this is a remote float trip for five days down the Smith River in Montana, it is a 63 mile float 4 nights of camping provided by the outfitter, a trip of a lifetime, please call for info and price. tight linesa little

Another awsome day up here. Lots of fish being brought to the net. Hendrickson spinners falling good in the evening and the caddis are starting up also. It has been a real good week here. Marty is off to Fla. to chase the Silver Kings , a little different game than the one we play here, so good luck..... We got rain here this am, and for the next day I guess. Could get an inch. The ground is pretty dry and we really need it. Keep your fingers crossed that we dont get dumped on. I personally like a day like today over bright sunshine. These fish are low light predators ya know. It
should continue to be real good fishing here. Come up and check it out. April 24,
774 cfs falling, perfect flow for the "Big H"
Temp 58
Vis: good
If you were brave enough yesterday to fish in the wind, and it was windy, they were great rewards to be had, reports of fish we caught from the bottom to the top,streamer fishing was excellent yesterday the best color reported was yellow again,however pictures and tails of a 23 inch rainbow surfaced yesterday afternoon,look like it was as fat as it was around,Nymph fishing continues to be quite consistent and bringing fish to net. Stonefly, Hendersons, Caddis pupa,prince Nymphs, are all working well, the newcomer,started last week and has been very effective is swinging wet flies across pockets and Foam lines,5:30 pm last night,the wind laid down,and the Hendrickson spinners,showed up throughout the River system, as I drove up the River they were bent rods everywhere I looked, I stopped at Sand hole fish were rising from bank to bank, our guides reported fish up in every hole they went through rain coming in on Sunday doesn't look too heavy, could be a great day for streamer fishing. more and more Caddis are being reported, probably about 10 days away and on track for the Mother's Day caddis hatch, scattered showers through Tuesday.Moe will handle the River report after today, I will be Tarpon fishing in Key Largo until Wednesday. Tight lines and good luck, Cross a few Eyes out there.

Midday report,fish up all over,started around 11:45am

"Come one come all", the 2010 fishing season is definitely under way, reports up and down the river that fish are rising to hatches, have been reported, the fishery is in great shape after last year's epic rain, and lack of pressure on the River. Rainbows have fared well over the winter and are fat and plump and will test your angling skills.

Wednesday depending on where you were in whose report you listen to fishing was good, fishing Hendrickson dries continues to take fish although the Hatch is starting to dwindle, it doesn't mean you can't catch them on Hendrickson's anymore,fish will be looking for them for at least another week,however Hendrickson spinner falls will continue into earlier parts of may . Reports of fish feeding on a size 12 Brown stonefly resonated from the upper river sections, from abutments through lower Elms, light rain coming through early afternoon should have no effect on the River, a beautiful Friday and Saturday on tap, streamer fishing has picked up , some green body, and Brown body caddis have been seen on the shop wall, get ready with lower waters this is awesome Hatch to be here for, with hatches running two weeks early we can start to see these tasty morsels anytime now. Sorry for the no report yesterday, family emergency, the good news, warm weather and falling River flow had the bugs out, and good numbers of fishing rising,reports of fish feeding on top all over the River, received 4 or 5 e-mails with reports of one , to eight fish caught, including a big brown measuring 21 inches ( on top ) a handful of rainbows measured between 14 and 18 inches, a pretty heavy spinner fall came to the table last night, rainbow run, the flats, and the pools behind the campground reported heavy action, I believe the beautiful weather of today made this all possible, 71° was reported, and River temperature climbed almost 5°, I see no reason why tomorrow wont be better than today, light showers and overcast skies,are forecast for tomorrow,by evening we could be near 800 CFS, tight lines

slightly less than a half-inch of rain fell over the last 2 days fish where taking down Hendrickson's dries from about 230pm, spinner falls started around 5:30 PM and fish were on them quickly. Streamer fishing continues to improve daily, report of a 23 inch brown caught on a little rascal streamer echoed up and down the river, it looks like most of the rain is over fishing should be good today with the overcast skies, as the front pull out, Sunday should be the best day of the week at the fish. Tight lines. PS: bought back by popular demand, Moe returns to the fly shop today to help out, welcome back Moe

More and more fish, are being reported caught on top, so I took a ride last night, and I went out to look for myself, I stopped at cover bridge pool, there were at least two dozen fish rising and a couple large Browns out to center going at it pretty good, they were sucking down Hendrickson spinners at that time, I did note, smaller rainbows along the banks taking out Hendrickson dries that were mixed in with the spinners. On my way back home I stopped to look at two car hole, I could see a half dozen fish working there, I never got into the Meadows, but for the traffic leaving after dark, we could ascertain that it must of be pretty good in their if they stay that late. Water levels are about to drop under 900 CFS, remembered at that flow you can walk all over the river, with the exception of the deeper pools. Looks like we will dodge the rain bullet for this weekend, lightly scattered showers Friday and Saturday and the same on Sunday, overcast skies should bring fish to the surface this could be the first good weekend of the season, "be there or be square" the new Orvis Hydrous Rods are in the store now, these rods use the state-of-the-art Helios’s rod blank with not so fancy reel seat, and eyes, for over $200 less savings, purchase a new Rod and Reel and get a free, Generation 3 Wonder line, a $60 savings

For the first time this year I have confirmed reports of fish being caught on Top ,Hendrickson dries, and the spinners, reported from ,push em ups,Rainbow run, Two-car, and the Meadows,scattered showers moving in for the next two days with breaks of Sun, the overcast skies and the water going under thousand CFS should have more and more fish coming to the surface. Streamer fishing continues to get better every day, Yellow seems to be the color of choice right now,Try A Zuddler fished on the swing,to do this you need to fish down River around in front of rocks over pockets, across foam lines, to be successful you need to cover a lot of water, at a thousand CFS,you can walk all over this River.tight lines

Not many people out yesterday, however from about two o'clock to six o'clock the Hendrickson's were in full force, first the Duns, then good numbers of Spinners, the report that I got yesterday were rainbows chasing yellow Zuddler as well as Hendrickson nymphs, stonefly nymphs, in yellow, black, with rubber legs caddis Pupa, I am seeing size 16 Olive caddis in small numbers on the fly shop wall as well as a size 12 Black Stonefly, water levels will fall under 1000 CFS by Saturday this should start bringing fish to the top. five day forecast scattered showers Friday and Saturday ,Sunday supposed to be partly sunny, I don't believe the be enough rain to affect the River as well as the leaves are coming out on the trees will be sucking up that water, Don't little rain keep you from fishing this weekend, the fish prefer to rise on cloudy days, Streamer fishing is best on overcast days. Tightlines

I floated the River yesterday from two o'clock to 5:30 PM my friend Paul landed a nice rainbow on a yellow cone head Zuddlers, Adam who was reminiscing in the back of the boat missed a very aggressive rainbow, stay focused Adam, ha ha, saw plenty of Hendrickson's, on water, still no rising fish, the River should drop under 1200cfs we could be near 1000 CFS by Saturday morning. With cooler temperatures this will slow the Hatch down a little, however fish were reported being caught on stonefly's, Hendrickson nymphs and caddis pupa. Despite rain coming in for weekend it will be light and have no effect on the River. tight lines
